Hello! My name is Dimitris Kolomvas and I'm a chess coach - combining my two greatest passions - teaching and, of course, chess!

I have been a dedicated chess enthusiast since I was a teenager and I love being able to share and nurture this passion in others.

I teach chess to adults and children alike. As a private tutor for individuals and small groups, I offer both in-person and live video classes. I also teach chess in several London primary and secondary schools (currently in New Cross, Greenwich, and Blackheath). I work with Chess in Schools and Communities with whom I trained in 2016. And I am a qualified professional chess referee working at tournaments and teaching groups of children at the annual London Chess Classic at Kensington Olympia. I have a fully up-to-date DBS clearance for working with children, and have been trained in safeguarding for young people by the NSPCC.

Starting out for Athens' top team (as you might have guessed I am originally from Greece!), I now live with my partner in South East London, playing at the Lewisham Chess Club in the London League and representing Kent at the County Level. My ECF National (English Chess Federation) rating is 2058.

I've also been involved in some local volunteer initiatives running drop-in chess lessons for local Lewisham residents in the park during the summer holidays (pre-pandemic times!).

Outside of chess I also tutor Mathematics and am a lecturer in Finance, Applied Mathematics and Econometrics holding a degree in Mathematics and MScs in both Computational Finance and Risk Management. Before devoting myself to my teaching passion I have worked in insurance and finance. Other enthusiasms include Basketball, Squash, History, Ancient Greece and Bridge.
I am CRB Checked for working with children.
