Chess Lessons to Suit You
I offer chess lessons to suit you. This means I can do weekends and evenings as well as weekday lessons, especially if this is desired for specific periods of lock-down, for example.
Lessons can be done in one or two hour sessions and I offer classes one-to-one as well as for small groups (maximum 5 people).
I teach players of all ages and levels and will tailor our lessons to suit your desired outcomes to ensure that you learn, improve, ask questions and have fun!
As a teacher I am inspired by the Socratic method which means that lessons are interactive and together we will explore and ask questions which help you to progress based on genuine understanding.
For beginners I will provide a structured approach to key tactical principles and puzzles as well as covering the basics of opening theory with recourse to instructive games from masters of past and present .
As players advance, we will spend time analysing your games and applying a more advanced and varied repertoire of chess theory.
I will suggest learning exercises and online materials for you to continue your learning in-between lessons.
One-to-One Lessons
Dedicated One-to-One lessons are optimal for students looking to develop their chess skills, knowledge and confidence fast. They allow us to work in a very tailored way moving forward at your pace.
Group Lessons
Some of my groups include whole families who are enjoying learning together. Others include friends who come together to learn and play online.
Generally I advise that to get the most out of group lessons there should be no more than 2 people per screen (if in the same home) and you should all be starting at a similar level of knowledge and ability.
Reduced Covid Pricing
Since the pandemic moved everything - including these lessons - online I have been able to reflect the travel and time cost savings in my fees and am currently running a reduced fee service: £20 per hour for One-to-One or £30 for a 2 hour One-to-One class; or £10 per person per hour for group classes.
